APEC SME SUMMIT: Breaking Barriers Through Innovation (Summit Invitation)
Posted by: Teacher ia | on January 11, 2013
Late last year 2012, I met a fine young lady from the Makati business district who hosted a a cultural event entitled “Filipino:A Five-Sense Experience” at MetMuseum. Another event this year allowed me to meet future financial analysts from 7 prestigious schools here in the Philippines for the 5th CFA Institute Research Campaign (IRC). In retrospect, I find our country’s need to equip our college students and graduates with information and experience that will prepare them for global competition part of the exciting times in our education system. Personally, that’s the move in education I would like to support. Thus, Special Education Philippines is sharing another one of those opportunities that can give our students, teachers and local entrepreneurs a way to become more globally competitive.
The APEC-SME Summit’s goal is to “inspire local entrepreneurs and students to think outside the box and be inspired by the success stories of business owners coming from the APEC region.” The Summit will allow academe (faculty and students) and entrepreneurs to meet and listen to speakers who will be flying all the way to Manila on this half-day summit just to attend this special event.
The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the business voice in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) process, will be having its FIRST ABAC MEETING FOR 2013 in Manila, Philippines. In conjunction with this, ABAC Philippines and the Makati Business Club are holding the APEC SME Summit: Breaking Barriers Through Innovation on 20 January 2013, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Francisco Santiago Hall of the BDO Conference Center, Makati City, Philippines.
This event will be attended by ABAC CEO-members and APEC senior officials from the 21 APEC economies and by some 400 Filipino entrepreneurs and business students.
The Summit aims to inspire and motivate Filipino entrepreneurs, through the stories of successful business innovators in the APEC region, to improve and re-create the way they do business and break into local and international markets. It hopes to challenge Filipinos to innovate their products, services, and business operations to meet the demands of the 21st century global market.
The event’s impressive line-up of speakers includes such prominent personalities as:
Vincent Lo, Founder and Chairman,
Shui On Group (Hong Kong);
Cher Wang, Chairman, VIA Technologies Inc. and HTC Group (Chinese Taipei);
Diane Wang, Founder, DHGate.com (China);
Dado Banatao, Managing Partner, Tallwood Venture Capital (Philippines);
Tony Tan Cakt iong , President and CEO, Jollibee Foods Corp. (Philippines);
Sheila Marcelo, President, Care.com (Philippines);

This looks like a perfect avenue for continuing and aspiring entrepreneurs out there. I like the fact that the event also allows the academe to participate.
